LEAD PASTOR, TEACHING
Shawn has a passion for consistently teaching the Word of God to all generations and speaking biblically, wisely and thoughtfully into cultural issues of the day. He served as Senior Pastor of Calvary Church in MN for 10 years, has been preaching for more than 30 years and served eight years as Pastor of Discipleship at Wooddale Church in MN, where he oversaw 100 small groups and 140 discipleship mentors.
Shawn’s education includes a Bachelor of Science in Business Management with a minor in Biblical Studies from Biola University, a Master of Divinity from Bethel Seminary and a Doctor of Ministry in Preaching from Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary, where he studied under Haddon Robinson. He served on regional and national Converge Boards for eight years. He worked under Leith Anderson, the former Senior Pastor of Wooddale Church and President of the National Association of Evangelicals.
He is married to Becky and they have four children, two daughters-in-law and one granddaughter. Shawn has a deep love for missions and likes to connect with others over a meal or a cup of coffee to hear their stories. He looks for ways to serve with Becky in ministry and enjoys spending time with his family, hiking, running, traveling and reading. They have visited every state, nine Canadian provinces and 20 countries around the world.
At Walnut Hill, Shawn is responsible for the teaching and preaching of God’s Word and discipling of His people.
Specific responsibilities Include:
• Vision and overall direction (shared responsibility with Craig and Adam)
• Member of the Elder Board
• Preaching and oversight of our multi-campus Preaching Team
• Staff development (shared responsibility with Craig and Adam)
• Oversight of Discipleship and Group Life
• Lead Pastor connection to our Care Ministries
• Serving as our Bethel Campus Pastor
